He holds a Masters and Doctorate degree in Theology from North Florida Theological Seminary and Jacksonville Baptist Theological. He also has a graduate degree in Philosophy and Leadership from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary. Bishop McLaughlin came to a personal relationship with Jesus at the age of 26. Shortly after his conversion, he was preaching everywhere, working with youth and the homeless. In 1988, he founded The Potter's House Christian Fellowship. The church's focus is on outreach to the jails, prisons, nursing homes, hospitals, food distribution and clothing efforts to transform their community.
Bishop is also the founder of The Potter's House Christian Academy. The Academy is fully accredited and currently has over 600 students. He has been recognized for his innovative and creative model of economic empowerment through The Potter's House Multiplex. The Multiplex houses a multitude of church owned and operated businesses. This structure was designed to spawn Christian businesses and foster economic synergy within the church and community. This led to purchasing a shopping mall for the church.
